The Neverending Photos Post

- We have our first hummingbird!

- All but one of the baby chickadees have flown the nest.

Actually, we were planting a bottle brush tree next to the nesting box when we looked up and saw a baby standing on the perch. We watched it fly a loooong way to the neighbor's tree where the Mama was calling it.

- Another calf was born next door a few days ago. We saw it just before sundown. We've only seen it the one time, too.

Never have I seen such a FROLICKING, ENERGETIC calf that was literally under 24 hours old. That little baby was jumping and hopping with every single step. It was so hilarious and different.

I got video of it, but I haven't uploaded it yet.

- We've been battling the swallows again.

Those birds are beautiful, but they are also stubborn to a fault. They dive bomb me because I won't allow them to build their muddy nests on the front porch. Thankfully, the fishing line that we put up - again - is finally keeping them away from the porch.

- Except for touch-up paint, making and adding wood to the gables, and staining the new cedar posts.... the house is f-i-n-a-l-l-y finished. Hooray!!!

We also might add wood shutters to certain windows at the front of the house. Other than that, what's next is planting more flowers and trees. (We've had really poor luck with our trees so far. The soil we have is pretty much dead of nutrients and filled with rocks like you would not believe. And I do mean lots and lots of rocks, but at least that keeps little Abigail happy).

We just planted two new bottle brush trees, so that's a start. We want to get a few Wax Leaf Myrtle trees, but unfortunately when we went to Sutherlands to buy some a lady there bought every one that they had. (I don't blame her. There were only 2 or 4 of them in stock, but it does suck because that was the ONLY tree we were specifically looking for). This is a small town, so now this means we'll have to go all the way to Brenham.

We're also going to get rid of the rock driveway and have cement poured instead. We're also going to have them do the same with a sidewalk leading to the house. (Well, the driveway.... we'll see if that happens. Our truck is acting up again, so we'll have to see how badly the damage there is).

We already started on adding a small path to the deck in the backyard, too, so that's good. (We just gathered the stepping stones/brick that we had up front and are reusing it in the back. Hooray for recycling!) It's a really small area, so it shouldn't be too time-consuming.

- Enough rambling. Here are more pictures and video from March. And I do mean A LOT of photos. I could have made several posts instead of lumping them all in this one post, but since I have close to zero readers and pretty much 1 person ever comments... (Hello, Luna! )... I figured what the heck.

A lot of freedom comes with anonymity, so I can't complain.

The Spring Antiques Show has come and gone. We went back the other day and got a couple more goodies. Nothing major of course, but small.

During the drive there, I saw a really silly sight. At one house there was a Mama goat with her babies. The Mama had her front legs dangling over the fence as she attempted eating the bush on the other side. (I guess the grass is always greener on the other side).

Her little babies were next to her, trying so hard to do the same.











I came close to trying the Nitro Cold Brew Coffee over at Junk Gypsy. There wasn't even a line if you can believe that! Luckily, it's always served at Two Sparrow's Roasting Company at Henkel Square in Round Top, so.... WIN!!!











In one week I devoured TWO wood-fired pizzas. TWO!!!

We made a special trip to The Vintage Marketplace because we knew Stump's Pizza would be there. Unfortunately, they said if they'd be ready that day it wouldn't be until after 3pm. (They've been at the Houston Rodeo before now).

Because they weren't yet open, we decided to try the Texas Pizza Wagon for the first time. Their wood-fired pizza was just as delicious, although I might give Stump's an extra point or two because their crust is a wee bit thinner and crunchier. Both are heavenly though.

The photos below are of the Texas Pizza Wagon location. I loved that it was down the road a bit away from the madness of all the crowds, tents and outbuildings.

Heading to the show one day we also saw the littlest calf in the bluebonnets with it's Mama. I think the calf was no more than a day or two old. It was the cutest, shortest little thing! I don't think I've ever seen a calf that short before. Goodness, it was adorable!

We also saw a turkey on the way home. We've started seeing them on that one stretch of road again lately, so that's been nice.

Oh, yes. The spiders have been spinning their webs in overtime lately.

One of them unraveled - probably due to the STRONG winds we've had lately - and stretched across the yard for several feet.

I'd never seen anything like it in my life. lol!




















Leaving the house to go to the antique show the other day we noticed that a cow across the street had twin calves. TWINS!

The neighbor behind used to have a Mama cow that gave birth to twins once. They say it's incredibly rare.

It looked to us like the twins were possibly born that day. The calves were lying down and the poor Mama looked to be recovering. Her breathing seemed a little erratic.





Oh, yeah. We got a RACCOON visitor the other night! (I think this is the first one I've ever seen here).

I had set the game camera out, in hopes of capturing video of the ARMADILLO Mom saw after midnight the other night. (Or as we call them here, "road bumps"). It was out front, eating June Bugs.

I never did see the armadillo, which was upsetting. We've never seen one on our lot before now. I was hoping it would return, but only once. They are carriers of leprosy after all. Yikes!

Most of these were taken the last week of March.

And the Wickel Road video - the first of several vids that I took - it's only MY FAVORITE PLACE around here! Even the camera cannot capture how beautiful and serene and happy that place is.
